Publishing Your Research: Current Publishing Agreements

Current Publishing Agreements

The Library is a member of the Victorian Health Libraries Consortium (VHLC), which negotiates “Read & Publish” deals, or “Transformative Agreements” with journal publishers.

These deals allow for Consortium members to publish research as Open Access in subscribed journals, without paying article processing charges (APCs).

There are a limited number of credits to be shared among the participating libraries. These credits will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

To be eligible, you will need to:

  • be employed by Barwon Health,
  • have conducted the research as part of your role here,
  • be the corresponding author and use your Barwon Health email address.

Please contact us if you require any further information or assistance.

Oxford University Press - Read & Publish Agreement

This agreement has an allowance for VHLC members to publish 14 journal articles per year as Open Access in Oxford University Press hybrid journals (hybrid journals publish both Open Access and paywalled articles).

The corresponding author must be affiliated with Barwon Health and use their Barwon Health email address when submitting their article.

Oxford University Press also has a CAUL agreement.

If you are eligible for both, please publish via the CAUL deal.

For further information, including Information for Authors and the Journal Title List, see the Oxford University Press VHLC website.

Springer Nature - Read & Publish Agreement

This agreement allows authors from participating VHLC institutions to collectively publish 30 Open Access articles in Springer hybrid journals, with no transactional APCs. The titles include original hybrid research titles from Springer, Palgrave & Adis hybrid journals on Springer Nature Link, and Academic journals on Nature.com.

Information for authors;

  • Follow the publisher's usual article submission process via the journal’s homepage.
  • On acceptance of the article, the publisher will ask the corresponding author to complete a form (publishing agreement).
  • The corresponding author selects Open Access and confirms the licence type.
  • The APC is automatically waived for authors from participating institutions who have:
    • used an institutional email address belonging to one of the participating institutions.
    • selected a participating institution as their institutional affiliation from a drop down list.

For further information, including Information for Authors and the Journal Title List, see the Springer Nature VHLC website.
