To ensure that your research publication is discoverable and acknowledged so don't forget to include Barwon Health in your organisation affiliation.

Your publication can then be included in the New Publications Newsletter, and the annual Barwon Health Research publications list

Developing a Publishing Strategy

    • What is the journal's reputation - rankings?/impact factors?  Check tools such as SCImago Journal & Country Rank 
    • Is the journal peer reviewed?
    • Does the journal fit with your research?

BMJ Case Reports  delivers peer-reviewed cases in all disciplines so you can easily find clinically important information on common and rare conditions. 

  • Barwon Health staff can submit their own cases free-of-charge by using the unique Barwon Health institutional fellowship code 200785. Indicate Barwon Health as the primary affiliation

ORCID is a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher. It supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities ensuring your work is recognised and discoverable.

Authorship

Who is an author and why is it important?

Authorship confers credit and has important academic and financial implementations. It implies responsibility and accountability for the published work

  • An author is defined as making a substantial contribution to the areas such as the conception, design data collection/analysis, drafting or revision of the manuscript
  • All members of the group named as authors should meet all authorship criteria and should be able to take public responsibility for the work

Ownership of Intellectual Property

Contracts & Copyright

Copyright protects the expression of an idea

  • the creator of the work owns copyright unless contracted away
  • signing research, funding, employment or publishing contracts can change the ownership from the creator to another party

It is important to read the publishing instructions/contract  so that you understand the consequences of what you are signing as copyright owners control the right to reproduce, publish, communicate, modify that work
